Tony Cliff is a busy professional performer and is resident pianist at Penmere Manor Hotel in Falmouth, the Headland Hotel in Newquay and also often performing at Budock Vean Hotel at Helford Passage, Mawnan Smith. Tony presents high quality musical entertainment through his outstanding keyboard skills and warm, relaxed vocal style and performs a very wide repertoire from classic songs of the 1930’s and 40’s, through the great music of the 50’s and 60’s right up to the most contemporary jazz and pop material. He has built up an extensive repertoire of material, both vocal and instrumental, and is therefore able to cater for a very wide range of musical tastes. Apart from his regular hotel engagements, Tony frequently plays for weddings and other functions and is happy to perform specially requested material through prior arrangement with the client. Tony plays for wedding ceremonies, wedding receptions and also performing for evening wedding celebrations. Tony provides a completely self-contained act with a high quality Bose PA system and professional 88-note stage piano which recreates the sound of a concert grand. The stage piano also allows the flexibility to perform in venues which do not possess a piano or perhaps in function rooms away from the hotel's piano. Tony is also of course very happy to play a hotel's own acoustic grand or upright piano where this is available or preferred. Tony provides material accessible to a wide range of audiences and offers the ideal choice of musical entertainment for weddings, parties, dinner-dances and all your function requirements. In 2001 he recorded a CD of songs and instrumentals called Summertime Swing and this was followed in 2003 by an instrumental CD entitled Cornish Blue - a collection of 7 original compositions and 7 standards presenting mellow jazz piano with just a hint of Cornish flavour. Whilst this CD features piano as the principal instrument, most tracks also include rhythm section and other accompanying instrumentation. In 2004 Tony recorded a CD of selected classics from the Great American Songbook for solo piano. This CD entitled Piano à la Carte is a collection of classic tunes by composers such as Gershwin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Hoagy Carmichael, Harry Warren and Richard Rogers. The CD is a great selection of instrumental song classics and, like Tony’s other recordings, is often available at gigs.
